On Time And On Budget: Weymouth’s Chapman Middle School

The Chapman Middle School which is scheduled to open in September, awed school officials and visitors during a tour last week.

“Considering this $163 million construction project took place during and at the height of the pandemic and all the associated economic impacts, it’s a testament to our project team that we are on schedule and projected to have some funding to spare,” said building committee Chairman Ted Langill.

This project was one of a handful of high-profile school projects in the region that broke ground in early 2020.

“BOND is an excellent industry partner, and I am not surprised, given our subcontractors and our talented carpenters, that this project is under budget and ahead of schedule. BOND and their subs were able to employ our members from Weymouth who have an added stake in this school once it is complete,” said NASRCC Southeast New England Business Manager Dennis Lassige.

Once complete, the new 252,000 sq ft facility will provide Weymouth with a state-of-the-art education facility that integrates high-technology tools for nearly 1,500 students in grades 6-8. The building includes an auditorium and indoor sports facilities, both of which can be used by the Weymouth community after school hours.

Weymouth resident and Local 346 carpenter and steward on the job, Frank Baxter (pictured) has two children who will attend the Chapman Middle School when construction is complete.

“Union carpenters always build with pride, but maybe a little more so when they’re building a school they know their own kids will attend.”
