Focused On Educating The Educators

The union continues to promote the availability of work and the viability of the career to balance the industry demand for our members. The North Atlantic States Carpenters Training Fund and the Labor Management Program are actively hosting students in union training centers on “Shop Fridays“, throughout the region and increasing their presence at job fairs, school visits, and career counselor conferences that focus on educating the educators. Providing information and resources about pursuing a career by earning a trade-based education in carpentry has been well-received by guidance counselors who may often be given more information from individual colleges than entire alternative career opportunities.

During National Apprenticeship Week, efforts were ramped up region-wide. Representatives from NASCLMP attended the annual New York State School Counselor Association Conference in Albany and exchanged information with hundreds of school counselors. In Rochester, NASRCC Local 276 teamed up with other regional building trades unions and Rochester Careers in Construction, Inc., bringing in educators and counselors to explore and learn about career pathways in construction.
