Linton Smith

Linton Smith

“Since joining the union my annual wages have greatly increased. My family can afford a comfortable lifestyle and I am able to plan for my children’s future. My family has good health benefits due to the union. This provides so much peace of mind as a father of two young children. The fact that we have access to good doctors and medical treatments means the world to me and my family.”

Linton Smith is a Journeyman Carpenter with Local 290 and credits the apprenticeship program for providing him with the best opportunity to learn the skills he needed for a successful career in the trade.

“The training made me realize how important safety was in my line of work. This, in turn, greatly improved the quality of my work. With the proper security measures, I was more confident with the tools and the trade. My mechanic skills as a union carpenter has excelled in so many ways.”

Because Linton no longer struggles financially and has a regular work schedule, he is able to use his free time and skillset to give back to his community by doing numerous volunteer projects. He also sits on the board of directors for a not-for-profit afterschool program for kids.

This year marked Linton’s 12th as a union carpenter and he is thankful every day for making the right choice.

“The success the union has given me can only be described as a blessing. The resources the union has given me has ensured a better life and future for my family and me. It is an honor to be a part of such a great organization that uplifts and enriches the lives of its members. I can only hope that the union gets the support it needs to continue its mission.”
