Brother Taylor Recognized on MLK Day

For over 25 years, Brother Fred Taylor has exemplified what it means to be a union carpenter, a leader, and a tireless advocate for working families. A proud member of Carpenters Local 336, Fred is a business representative for the North Atlantic States Carpenters and a trustee on the Local 336 Executive Board. He works to strengthen our union, support our members, and serve the broader Local 336 community, which he has proudly called home for decades.

Fred’s commitment to community service was recognized this week when he received the Eleanor T. Hawley Community Service Award at the annual Worcester County Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Community Breakfast. This honor reflects not only Fred’s dedication but also the connection between the labor movement and the fight for civil rights.

“Fred Taylor truly embodies the ideals of our union. He uplifts our local, empowers our members, and consistently champions the causes that matter most, setting a standard of leadership and commitment we are all proud of,” said David Minasian, Regional Manager, NASRCC.

Reflecting on receiving the Eleanor T. Hawley Community Service Award, Fred shared:

“Receiving the Eleanor T. Hawley Community Service Award at the 41st Annual Worcester County Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Breakfast is both an honor and a responsibility that I take to heart as a union carpenter. This recognition highlights the crucial link between workers’ rights and civil rights, a vision that Dr. King passionately advocated for. By actively engaging with our community on these important issues, I reaffirm my commitment to empowering workers and ensuring their voices are heard. This award not only reflects my individual efforts but also showcases the Carpenters enduring dedication to advocating for fair treatment and justice for all workers. Together, we can continue to build a stronger, more equitable future.”

Fred serves as President of the Worcester Branch of the NAACP, advocating for equity, justice, and opportunity. He is also a core member of Black Families Together and a committee member for Worcester’s Black Heritage Juneteenth Festival, celebrating culture, history, and unity. Additionally, Fred co-chairs the Worcester Community-Labor Coalition, represents the Coalition on the Worcester Jobs Fund Board, and serves on the Governor’s Advisory Council on Black Empowerment, advancing policies that strengthen and empower Black communities across Massachusetts.

Congratulations on this well-deserved recognition, Brother!
