A strong union needs skills, benefits and ACTION!
Congratulations to Anthony Villa, Regional Manager of Eastern New York for the North Atlantic States Carpenters Union, who was recognized as Labor Honoree at the Association of Wall-Ceiling & Carpentry Industries of New York (WC&C) Spring Gala on Saturday in Queens, NY.
The evening brought together industry partners and leadership from across our union, including NASRCC Executive Secretary-Treasurer Joe Byrne, UBC Eastern District Vice President Joe Geiger, NYC Carpenters Executive Secretary-Treasurer Paul Capurso, along with council staff, delegates, and rank-and-file members.
WC&C recognized Local 290 Brother Villa for his leadership and dedication that continue to elevate both our industry and their association. WC&C selected Villa as Labor Honoree alongside Robert Perricone, president of Component Assembly Systems, as Management Honoree, as “two leaders whose commitment, professionalism, and dedication exemplify the strength of collaboration between management and labor. Their contributions continue to move our industry forward, and we are grateful for their service and leadership.”
Anthony’s career journey embodies the core values that define our union’s strength: hard work, a commitment to organizing, and a dedication to supporting others every step of the way. In accepting the honor, he reflected on the life-changing impact of union membership and the opportunities it made possible for him.
“From day one, the union didn’t just give me a job, it gave me a career, a brotherhood, and a pathway to build a better life. Being a kid from the Bronx with no prior friends or family affiliated with the Carpenters union, I could have never envisioned what could be achieved with dedication and determination. As I progressed from apprentice, to journeyman, to steward, and eventually foreman, one thing was always clear: none of it happens alone. It happens because the Carpenters union invests in its members. It happens because we train, we mentor, and we stand shoulder to shoulder to make sure every member has the opportunity to succeed.”
Anthony also shared how his transition to staff deepened his understanding of the union’s broader mission, not only on the jobsite, but in organizing, contractor relationships, and advocacy for working families.
“When I was hired on staff in 2013, I saw firsthand that our strength goes far beyond the jobsite. I learned the importance of organizing, of supporting our contractors, and to fight for policies that protect working men and women because at the end of the day, a strong union doesn’t just build structures, it builds opportunity, stability, and a future for families.”
His remarks also highlighted the leadership and long-term vision that continue to position the Carpenters for success and sustainability.
“What we have here is special. The Carpenters union is leading the way, not by chance, but through vision, leadership, and a commitment to developing the next generation. That’s a testament to the leadership of our EST Joe Byrne for his dedication to succession planning and long-term strength.”
Villa also shared heartfelt thanks to his wife, Catia, and their three children, recognizing them as his biggest supporters and “greatest source of strength” throughout his career journey.
Brother Anthony’s recognition is a testament to his hard work, dedication, and unwavering commitment to our union and our industry. We are proud to celebrate this well-deserved honor as he continues to set a strong example for our members and help shape the future of our union.
