A Day of Significance

Today, a new president and vice president took their oaths of office and begin serving at the highest level of our government. The Carpenters union endorsed former Vice President Joe Biden and Senator Kamala Harris because we believed that they would best support the values and policies good for union construction workers. Still, we hope to continue working with both parties in Congress, to whatever extent possible, to strengthen our rights, create jobs, and improve conditions for our fellow Brothers and Sisters.

We would also like to express our congratulations to Kamala Harris as the first woman and person of color to hold the office of vice president of the United States. Her achievement is both a symbol of the progress America has made in creating racial and gender equity and a very real message to women, girls and all people of color across our country that the limits of what they can accomplish have been further reduced. As we strive to create greater racial and gender equality within our own union, we are inspired and encouraged by her success.
