WSJ: Trump’s War on Wind Has This Construction Crew Stuck 15 Miles Out at Sea

Revolution Wind, a project already 80% complete with all foundations installed, was hit with a stop-work order from the U.S. Department of the Interior, despite having secured every required federal and state permit.

This order directly impacts our communities and NASRCC members. To date, the project has generated more than 2 million union labor hours, supporting over 1,000 local union jobs across three ports. Hundreds more were slated to head offshore this year, but now those paychecks—and the families who depend on them—are on the line. Some of the NASRCC members shared their stories with the Wall Street Journal in this article below:

Trump’s War on Wind Has This Construction Crew Stuck 15 Miles Out at Sea

“Peering out from a 262-foot ship he currently calls home, the 26-year-old has been looking across the water off the coast of Rhode Island and onto one of America’s largest construction sites, wondering if he will ever be allowed to finish the job.

[Connor] Walcutt is among the workers caught in the crossfire of President Trump’s war on the offshore wind industry, which recently culminated when officials halted the $5 billion Revolution Wind project.

Walcutt, whose current stint offshore runs through mid-September, is confident his union will be able to land him opportunities if construction at Revolution isn’t allowed to continue. “Then again, there’s not a lot of big jobs right now,” he said.

Father of a 10-month-old son, Walcutt said a return to working on bridges, train stations and other projects on Long Island would undercut why he jumped at the chance to work on what seemed like a burgeoning American industry.”
