Sharpening skills and strengthening solidarity at the NASCTF SME Conference

During the summer break in apprenticeship training, more than 60 instructors and staff from the North Atlantic States Carpenters Training Fund (NASCTF) gathered in Albany this week for the 4th annual “Subject Matter Expert” conference.

This four-day event was dedicated to advancing training, strengthening teamwork, and supporting professional development. Staff took part in a series of workshops covering everything from curriculum development and teaching strategies to first aid, CPR, and de-escalation techniques.

“We know that when we’re working together, we are providing the best possible outcomes for all of our membership, and that comes when all of the team is rowing in the same direction,” said Ziven Drake, executive director, NASCTF.

“So much comes out of getting everyone together and going over all the curriculum and elevating our craft to the highest possible level,” said Joe Madeline, instructor, NASCTF.

“It was great being here this week collaborating with different instructors from around the region with the same mindset,” said Decio Santos, instructor, NASCTF.

Through shared learning and collaboration, this conference reinforces what sets union training apart and how investing in our educators means investing in every member’s future.
