Union Shows Support for Families of Fallen Brothers

Following the tragic loss of Piledrivers Local 56 members Larriston Lake and Paul Ledwell Jr. in an October jobsite incident, the 22 locals of the North Atlantic States Regional Council of Carpenters and the UBC Eastern District came together to support their families.

At last night’s Local 56 union meeting, representatives presented the Lake and Ledwell families with checks of $27,000 each, representing a total of $54,000 raised through generous donations from the locals and District Council.

NASRCC Executive Secretary-Treasurer Joe Byrne said of Brothers Lake and Ledwell, “Their commitment to their craft and to their Local embodied the very spirit of solidarity that defines us today. We grieve their loss deeply and our hearts are with their families, who carry the heaviest burden.”

Before presenting the checks to each of the families, Local 56 Business Manager John Dunderdale reflected on union solidarity, saying, “the strength of our Brotherhood is not measured only by the work we perform or the projects we build. It is measured by how we show up for one another in life’s most difficult moments.”

He added, “Please know that this union stands with you today, tomorrow, and always. Your loved ones were our brothers, and their legacy will forever remain a part of this organization.”
