CTA Failure to Qualify OK’d by AG

Bad news for non-union general contractor CTA and good news for union carpenters: The Massachusetts Attorney General’s Office has denied a CTA protest regarding their failure to be qualified to bid on construction of a Braintree school. Braintree did not qualify CTA to bid, due in part to a failing grade they were given on a Dedham project as well as settled and pending legal and administrative proceedings.

Bacon Construction, which is signatory to a union agreement, has been awarded the contract for the new South Middle School. Their low bid of $66.7 million came in under the project’s original budget and the amount appropriated by the town. Bacon’s construction of a new high school for Whitman-Hanson High and renovations for Hingham High School both came in on time and under budget.
