A strong union needs skills, benefits and ACTION!
Maine Carpenters have recently endorsed two candidates for higher office in November elections, announcing their support for Matt Dunlap in the state’s 2nd Congressional District and Hannah Pingree for Governor.
Dunlap defeated the choice of national Democratic leaders in last month’s primary and will face former Governor Paul LePage in the general election in November. “Dunlap is a strong union supporter and will push hard for organizing rights,” said Northern New England Regional Manager John Leavitt. In contract, LePage pushed for so-called “Right to Work” while in office and famously opposed unions, including having a pro-worker mural removed from the Labor Department’s office within days of his election.
In the race to replace term-limited Governor Janet Mills, Pingree brings “a history of supporting unions and workers’ rights in the legislature and a commitment to economic fairness,” said Leavitt. Pingree defeated a strong field of candidates in the primary and will face Republican Bobby Charles and former Republican Rick Bennett in the general election.
